Aidou Kou (Ai-Tong), is Tasuki's older sister, and the youngest of the five daughters of the Kou family. She appears in Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play manga and Tasuki's one-shot, The Reason I Started Hating Women.

Character[]

Upon her entrance, Aidou’s character is shown as hardworking, sarcastic, and stern where she needs to be. Growing up with a passive father figure left more than a few marks on the Kou family, leaving Aidou and her siblings to work hard for their livelihoods, and their mother to take on a more dominant role in the household.

Being surrounded by girls with no proper figure to lead Tasuki through his teenage years forced him to find guidance elsewhere. But not for Aidou, who seems to be empowered by the strong women in her life.

While it remains unclear where the rest of the sisters ended up after leaving home, Aidou proves her devotion to her family by staying behind and helping her parents in their later years. She holds a deep sense of gratitude toward those who help her and her family. When she meets Miaka and Taka, she continuously thanks them for providing support and adding purpose to her little brother’s life.[1]

Like most siblings, she knows her brother well and can tell when he’s feeling off. She frequently speaks her mind, much to her brother's dismay.

Story[]

The Reason I Started Hating Women[]

Aidou appears in Tasuki's one-shot, a small vignette detailing the lives of her and her siblings.

Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play[]

Aidou-0

Aidou meets Miaka and Taka upon their return to the Universe of the Four Gods. After Tasuki saves the couple from one of Tenkou's demons, Aidou interrupts their reunion by hurling a bundle of firewood at her brother. She angrily launches into a tirade about him "slacking off" on his chores.

However, when she notices the two strangers, her demeanor changes. She is overly sweet and polite, masking her rage. Once Tasuki reveals their identities, Aidou excitedly invites the couple for dinner at the Kou family home.[1]

She then quickly settles her guests in and prepares a meal. When everyone is gathered, another one of Tenkou’s demons suddenly bursts from the table and makes for Miaka and Taka. Acting fast, Tasuki uses his Tessen to destroy the demon. Instead of praise, this evokes their mother’s wrath, and she berates her son for using a weapon at the dinner table. Aidou turns to her father and chastises him for not reacting appropriately—or at all.

Shortly after the incident, Miaka and Taka are abruptly sent back to the Real World, leaving the Kou family behind.[1]
