Daijiin Temple (大寺院 daijiin lit. large temple) is a Tibetan temple in Sairou. The Seiryuu Warrior, Miboshi, infiltrated the abbey by possessing the body of their abbot. Since then, he has formed a demonic sect that is revered by its followers, including the Emperor of Sairou. It is featured in Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play.
Story[]
Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play[]
After discovering the Byakko Shrine is missing its Shinzaho, Nakago, Yui, and the Seiryuu Warriors kidnap the Byakko Warrior standing guard, Tatara. They bring him to Daijiin for a violent interrogation session. When Miaka arrives at the temple to investigate, she is captured by the monks and is brought to Nakago and Miboshi. The abbot casts a spell that steals her voice and Miaka is taken to Yui and a recently-tortured Tatara.[1] When Yui seemingly makes up with Miaka, the Byakko Warrior reveals the Shinzaho, which Yui promptly steals.[2] Now unbound, Tatara uses his powers to escape with Miaka.[3]
Meanwhile, Tamahome, the remaining Suzaku Warriors, Tokaki, and Subaru enter the temple and fight the monks, who have transformed into demons. Tamahome spies Yui retreating a few levels above him. He spots the Shinzaho in her hands and begs her not to summon Seiryuu, however, preparations are already being made on the roof of the temple.[2] As the group continues to charge up the temple's many levels, they finally meet up with Miaka and Tatara only to be ambushed by Miboshi. Tatara ultimately kills the Seiryuu Warrior but dies in Tokaki and Subaru's embrace soon after.[3]
Using the last of his life force, Miboshi desperately searches for a new host body, only to set his sights on Chiriko.[3] He possesses the young warrior's body and attacks the group. When he summons a giant demon, Chiriko regains control and stabs himself through the heart. Tasuki rushes to him and makes room for Mitsukake to heal their friend, but Chiriko begs them to let Miboshi die with him. He urges Miaka to stop the summoning ceremony and she, along with Tamahome, Chichiri, Tokaki, and Subaru, tearfully make their way up to the roof. [4]Tasuki and Mitsukake stay by the warrior's side until he passes away.
In the stairwell leading up to the temple's roof, Soi blocks the group's path. Tokaki and Subaru challenge her. Miaka, Tamahome, and Chichiri continue, only to be stopped once more by Nakago. He attacks them to stall for time as Yui summons Seiryuu. The magnitude of the summoning ceremony causes Daijiin to collapse, and the group safely makes it out of the temple with both Tatara and Chiriko's bodies.[5]
