Miaka sneaks and takes a shortcut to Kutou through a forest, and is attacked by a tiger. She tries to defend and save herself, but Tamahome arrives to save her, managing to protect her. Miaka tells him to leave her be, unwanting to cause him any more trouble, but he says that it his duty to be by her side and protecting her.
accepting his words, Miaka falls and tells him she is too hungry to move and asks him to bring her a bag of candy from her horse. However, as soon as Tamahome leaves and heads for the horse, she runs off again, catching a wagon to the next village. Tamahome follows on her horse after sending Nuriko to report back to Hotohori about what happened. Hotohori, unable to abandon his responsibilities as the emperor of Konan, wants to send soldiers to search for Miaka but his advisors remind him that
Tamahome gets a bag of candy from Miaka's horse.
doing so would make the upcoming war worse.
Miaka then arrives at the gate to Kutou but does not have a passport. Chichiri, who was following her the whole time, uses his power to freeze and paralyze the guards so she can get into the city. A general appears and breaks the spell, then asks who she is. Miaka claims to be the Priestess of Seiryuu so he tells her he will take her to the Emperor of Kutou immediately. Miaka initially declines, saying she has something to do first, but then sees Tamahome trying to get past the guards and agrees to go immediately. Chichiri stops Tamahome, telling the guards that he was drunk, explaining the situation to him as Miaka is taken away. The general, Nakago , takes her to the Kutou palace, and then Yui is also brought in. The two friends were reunited and they tearfully embrace, but in doing so Miaka drops her bag with the Konan copy of The Universe of the Four Gods falls out. Nakago picks it up and opens it.
