Fushigi Yuugi: The Tale of the Forbidden Women's Hot Spring Resort (Fushigi Yuugi Otsukare Ian Bus Ryokou: Kindan no Josei Onsen-hen) is a three-part omake that appears at the end of each episode of OVA 1.
Synopsis[]
The Celestial Warriors of gods Suzaku and Seiryuu alongside their priestesses, Miaka Yuki and Yui Hongo, are granted a bus trip to a special hot spring resort to enjoy some leisure time. Despite the extensive journey, the lively parties spice up the experience by playing mischievous tricks on each other, completely unaware of the surprise awaiting them at their destination.
Plot[]
Part 1[]
The first part of the omake starts off with Ashitare howling on top of the Seiryuu bus traveling in the middle of a mountain region. His howling however annoys Nakago, who in turn he asks a clinging Soi if there is anything she can do to quiet Ashtare. She happiiy replies that she can and snapping her fingers, she summons lighting to strike him. This stops the howling as the rest of the warriors inside the bus have a comically concerned look on their faces. The next shot cuts to Tetsuya who complains why he has to be the one to drive the bus. Yui then apologizes to him for bringing him along, which makes him blush and states that he doesn't mind and he has to be the one to protect her 'from the teenage pervert'. An angry Suboshi spins a meter ball as he asks Tetsuya who is he calling a teenage pervert. The scene changes briefly to show Ashitare burnt on top of the bus while Suboshi inside declares to his weapon to rejoice as they will taste blood again. Offscreen he tries to attack Tetsuya but Yui tells him to stop it or else she will tell his agent. Suboshi then addresses the japanese seiyuu of Yui directly (or the English VA in the dub) to take it easy. The panel then switches back to an irritated Suboshi who gripes why they couldn't get a vacation package to somewhere nice instead to a place out in the boonies. This makes Nakago fire a life force blast directly hitting the windshield as Tetsuya tells him to not fire any blasts while on the bus. Nakago then proceeds to say that any negative comments of the region is unacceptable (in both dubs he ends up pronouncing a word wrong). The directors then make a brief appearance and call Nakago's seiyuu (or English VA) out on his mistake. He then apologizes for it . Tomo reads a letter written to then as Miboshi listens, mentioning some of the distributors and possibly sponsors of the series. He then mentions they were lucky to get a reward for all their hard work as actors. Miboshi asks about the animation studio and Tomo comments the producers are nothing but cheapskates, which makes the pair laugh. This makes Suboshi realize that if they got the package, the Suzaku warriors most likely got the same one as well. Yui then asks where Amiboshi is at since he isn't on their bus. Soi just remarks he is probably on the other bus with the losers, which makes Yui come up with a mischievous idea to send a written message to Amiboshi. Suboshi misunderstands her and assumes she wants to get more intimate with him, which causes him to be embarrassed and she then calls him an idiot for thinking that.
On the other bus where the Suzaku warriors are traveling in, Nuriko is doing karaoke as Tasuki and Chichiri complain. Chichiri wants Nuriko to stop while Tasuki says it was just dumb luck and will knock Nuriko off the character vocal charts with his next release .Mitsukake then declares he will release three more CDs, which make the pair turn their heads in disbelief. This causes Mitsukake to stand up and walk over to them planning to beat them up. While Chichiri is in a headlock by Mitsukake, a sick Chiriko appears before Tasuki, who asks why does he look like he wants to cry. Chiriko then says he feels carsick as the trio start to panic, trying to prevent him from making an accident on the bus. It's revealed an annoyed Keisuke is the driver of the bus as offscreen Mitsukake tries to heal Chiriko but he still throws up. They comment he should've went out front and when Chiriko asks Keisuke for help, he snaps at him to get away and he won't help him which makes Chiriko say everyone is so mean. Nurkio complains he is trying to sing to which Tasuki replies at him to shut up. It switches to Tamahome and Miaka ignoring the commotion on the bus as they sit in the back holding hands and saying each others name(as a way to poke fun at the trope). Amiboshi grimaces which makes Hotohori ask him what's wrong. It turned out it was actually a message Yui wrote on his brother appearing on his forearm, demanding to know why he was on the other bus and he will be sorry. The group awkwardly say how scary it sounds and how they will never understand the way Yui thinks. Deciding to reply, Tasuki sends them a long answer before Amiboshi can protest.
Back on the other bus, Yui reads the response from Tasuki in which he states he is awesome to hang out with. However, they catch on and reply they know he is writing it. Amiboshi tells Tasuki and on his palm reads 'Knock it off ,Fang Boy' He gets irritated quickly and soon, each group on both buses exchange words . From Nuriko insulting Tomo to Miaka joining in on it . For comic relief as well, both twins are forced to deal with each group wanting to take their anger out on them. They eventually insult Tamahome with his childhood nickname who in a comical fit of rage replies. Nakago is the only one to not get involved as he says he works with idiots until Miboshi reads Tamahome's reply about receiving fan mail. This causes Nakago to finally snap as the others comment that was the final straw. Soi smugly quips that Nakago has her and doesn't need any fan mail which Miboshi disagrees with. Suboshi panics and pleads hysterically to Nakago to not write on him as he holds up a sharp nail with a creepy look in his eyes. It ends with the group taking pity on the poor Suboshi.
Part 2[]
The next pert starts off with a bathhouse as both buses arrive, and once parked Tetsuya and Keisuke run out and hug each other. They both vent to each other; Tetsuya being afraid for most of the ride while Keisuke had to deal with the smell inside the bus. The scene switches to the bus while Hotohori, Mitsukake , and Tasuki are grossed out while Miaka and Tamahome are still oblivious to the chaos around them. Tasuki weakly asks Chiriko if he feels better now, to which Chiriko replies with a smile that he did and proceeds to ask the group if they want to see the bag. Then a warning appears to the studio if the potty humor or gags continue, the video release of the series will be canceled by the video cencorship association.
The scene cuts to Tasuki and Hotorhori excited to start the vacation, while Tamahome peeks inside the Seiryuu bus and sarcastically tells Nakago he has quite a fancy bus. He smugly retorts that as the authors' favorite chracter nothing less should be expected. At this point Soi is clinging to Nakago as she just giggles like a fan girl, only for Nakago to say she really needed to chill out. Tamahome in disbelief comments how as he didn't appear until the end of part two. He dodges the energy blast as it hits the Suzaku bus instead. Tamahome calls him a jerk and insults him again by saying his CD's completely sucked. Miaka intervenes when he attacks again and Nakago just insults her by saying ' Shut up, ruby!' Chiriko turns serious for a moment and Tasuki asks him what's the matter as the former simply says they have trouble. Miaka who is beating Nakago and the others also ask Chiriko as well. He simply states everyone needs to dress up like women, as some are in shock and even ask why. Chiriko then hold up what seems to be a manga volume and asks who has read it. It then turns out they have as the banner announces the manga has reached the 10 million milestone in sales. Tamahome takes out a calculator to do the math as Yui states it's very tacky but as usual Tamahome fantasies about the potential cash cow it generated, as the latter just realizes that's the type of character he is.
Chiriko advises that because of the name of the hot springs the only way to please the fans was to crossdress, with some of the cast asking questions. Hotohori asks just what did he have in mind, Mitsukake if the episode was going to play out straight and Soi asking if they want to see her grand entrance. Chiriko then tells everyone to go back inside the buses for makeup and costumes. Hotohori states he doesn't really need any makeup but maybe a change of outfit. Nuriko plans to go in just the way he looks as Tomo plans to remove some his theater inspired make up and Miboshi is at a complete loss at what to do. Ashitare makes a comment that comically pisses off Nakago and Hotohori as they both beat him up as a gag. Nuriko wonders why Hotorhori is so hard on all the less appealing people. Chiriko then offscreen is prepared to show off his costume when the second part ends in a cliffhanger.
Part 3[]
The final segment in the omake cuts to both Hotohori in a new outfit and Nuriko who changed his mind at the last minute deciding to get a new outfit and hair done, saying he looks fantastic in women's clothing. Miaka is somewhat confused as Nuriko claimed he had no more interest in 'being gay'. Nakago is then revealed in outfit and makeup as he asks what look does Chichiri plan on donning. He transforms into his desired look which gains compliments from many including Soi and Yui but a jealous Nuriko remarks under his breath he is still prettier than Chichiri. Miaka accidentally blurts out if the look was from his ex-fiance the one that his best friend stole from him before he stabbed him while Yui is comically stiff at what she said. Chichiri is visibly distraught as Miaka realizes her careless mistake, Yui simply says she will end up alone one day.
Chiriko finally steps out the bus which was left in suspense in the last part to reveal his new look, as many compliment him and even recommend he dress that way more often. Tasuki and Tamahome are not pleased with their new looks however as they step out with annoyance written across their faces. Even Keisuke and Tetsuya went for it as both groups seemed to finally be able to be civil for once and finally start the vacation. But then Mitsukake steps out and everyone is horrified to the point where his face is pixelated from revealing his makeup completely. He claims nothing fit him unfortunately as Tamahome stating that wasn't the real problem and everyone looks ready to lose their lunch. Even Chiriko starts to feel sick again while Tasuki tells him to keep it in and he has another bag. Tama sits ontop of the bus with a bow not even wanting to come down to Mitsukake. When he calls Tama to get down, he just hisses at him.
The owner of the hot springs and two other women come out to greet the guests and says no men are allowed be be there when the owner changes demeanor, suspecting there is a man in the group. Immediately, the attention is on Mitsukake who just says ' Don't look at me.' This mistake blew his cover as the women tied him up and took him away. CHiriko at first sounds concerned when met mentions he is going to be sequestered as Tamahome and Tasuki panic but it is revealed he will be sequestered to be used as a breeding stud which make some of the men shout in disbelief and even more so when Chiriko mentions every woman in the nearby area will have a go at Mitsukake.
A seething Miaka watches her brother take off the costume as she asks what is he doing, to which he shamelessly declares he found his 'true calling' in life and it's what he wanted to truly do. Tamahome and Tasuki also take off their costumes as Miaka realized Tamahome was also planning to join the other two. They both purposely shout they are men and ready for all the grls in the area as a jealous Miaka shouts at Tamahome.
The nest scene reveals a recording session coming to an end as the 'On Air' switches to 'Test' as all the cast say their farewells before heading out. One of the actors for the twins converses with the actor for Tamahome over directions, with the actor for Nuriko asks if they had til two o' clock. The character designer then appears and tells the crew he wants to take them out for lunch as a reward for all their hard work. The actor for Nakago is just sitting in a corner with food in his mouth as the guy speaks. The actor for Tasuki asks who that nerdy guy is as the actress for Yui explains that he is both the character designer and key animation director. The actor for Mitsukake complained that thanks to him, he had to talk in a monotone for years. Even the vanity gag stuck to the actor for Hotohori as he comments how bald he is. The majority blanch visibly white as they swarm off with the guy to lunch while pretending to be nice to him. A few of the cast still stay behind. They leave one at a time until only the actress for Miaka remains, still in the brown jiunor high school uniform standing by the door. The lights on everything shut off one by one as she stares into the room with a soft look In her eyes. A voice calls out which addresses her as Ms. Araki (her VA counterpart in the dub) and that they are leaving soon. Her shadow is seen then closing the door to the studio, which marks the end of the omake.
