Genbu Grotto is a major Real World location in Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden and minor one in Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play: episode 42. It is based on one of the basalt caves of Genbudo Park in Japan.

In Chapter _, after Einosuke killed her daughter that she's was going to die of tuberculosis since she already grant two wishes that she was devoured by Genbu, and never let it make the final wish, so, he placed her body inside the cave of the Genbu Grotto, and then, he decided to commit suicide.

While researching the Universe of the Four Gods in the National Library, Keisuke Yuki and Kajiwara Tetsuya discover a newspaper detailing the suspected murder-suicide of Einosuke and Takiko Okuda. They travel to the grotto, the scene of the crime, and speak with Suzuno Osugi. Local legend asserts that the cave was the exact spot Genbu first emerged from thousands of years before.

Trivia[]

  • Genbu Grotto was only featured in the Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play anime, not the manga. Keisuke and Kajiwara's investigation was also added to the anime to further flesh out their characters and the book's impact on the real world.
  • In reality, Morioka and Genbudo Park are around 1,000 kilometers apart. In Genbu Kaiden, Einosuke only has to make a short trip to what can be assumed to be Mount Iwate to reach the cave.
