Mt. Taikyoku is a large mountain in the center of the Universe of the Four Gods where Taiitsukun and Nyan-Nyan live. It is a major location in Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play and a minor location in Fushigi Yuugi: Genbu Kaiden and Chichiri's light novel, Shouryuu Den.

Geography[]

For a detailed world map, see The Universe of the Four Gods Map.

The mountain's steep peaks appear to be inspired by similar mountain ranges in China. Waterfalls from mountain springs flow over the rocky cliff-faces and greeting pine trees are sparsely scattered across the mountainside. Clouds and pink orbs also float about the mountaintop.

Taiitsukun's Palace[]

Mt

Taiitsukun's Palace.

Taiitsukun's palace is located at the peak of Mt. Taikyoku. The main hall sits at the top of a grand staircase carved into the mountainside. Its architecture mirrors that of shrines and palaces found in the Wudang Mountains.

The exterior of each structure of the complex is a light pink/red with green roofs and golden trim/ornaments. Stone-arched bridges connect pathways from the smaller shrines, pagodas, and pavilions around the mountain to the main palace.[1]

Inside, spacious marble hallways are bordered by grand pillars draped with linen. Round windows provide a view of the mountainside throughout the palace and circular doorways access many rooms and passageways. In the central room of the palace, there is a giant mirror with an ornate golden frame depicting each of the four beast gods. It holds records of the entire history of the four empires and allows Taiitskun to replay events or view them as they occur.[2]

Trivia[]

  • Three years prior to the events of Fushigi Yuugi, Chichiri was housed and trained by Taiitskun on the mountain.[2]
  • According to Taiitsukun, people with evil in their hearts will only see the mountain as barren, rocky cliffs.[1][3]
