The Nuriko Special, a notoriously strong alcoholic beverage, is the signature drink of the Celestial Warrior, Nuriko.

The ingredients for the character's signature drink are as follows:

  • 1 part Paichu (白酒 Baijiu)
  • 3 parts Raochu (老酒 Laojiu)
  • 4 parts Shoukoushu (绍兴酒 Shaoxingjiu)[1]

Recipe (Non-Alcoholic)[]

For a non-alcoholic/non-canon version, the ingredients below mirror some of the flavor notes of the Chinese wines listed above:

  • 1 part pineapple or guava juice
  • 3 parts ginger beer
  • 4 parts dark fruit juice or kombucha (grape, plum, fig, etc.)

Story[]

"Now, let's practice drinking for our "Finding the Shinzaho" party!"
—Nuriko to Tamahome

The beverage appears in Episode 32 of Fushigi Yuugi: The Mysterious Play. After his encounter with Yui in Touran, Tamahome returns to a local inn where the rest of the Suzaku Seven are staying. Troubled by Yui's claim that he is just a "character in a book," Tamahome is uncharacteristically distant towards Miaka, who has just arrived with Nuriko after an attack from the Seiryuu Warrior, Ashitare.[2] He retreats to the inn's bar, attempting to drink his anxieties away, but he is soon joined by Nuriko, who enthusiastically orders a "Nuriko Special."

Over their wine, the two discuss their roles as members of the Suzaku Seven and their allegiance to Miaka. In a pivotal moment, Nuriko expresses his assurance in his "female-self," but wonders aloud what kind of man he could be. He confesses his love for all the Suzaku Warriors and their Priestess, claiming that love is what made him a Celestial Warrior, and Tamahome becomes reassured of his own position as a warrior.[3]
