Yoshie Okuda (奥田 義恵 Okuda Yoshie) is the mother of Takiko Okuda who appears in the prequel series Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden and dies at the beginning.
Yoshie died because of tuberculosis. shortly after moving back to her birth place of Morioka. She had been ill for a long time already; Takiko had to tend to her and, unbeknownst to everyone at first, she has also contracted the disease. Her husband Einosuke Okuda was not even there to witness her death.
The few scenes that featured Yoshie showed her as a gentle and kind woman, who loved her daughter very much and was deeply loved back by Takiko. She, however, considered herself a burden on Takiko due to her illness and how Takiko had to constantly keep an eye on her.
Takiko wanted to use the power of Genbu to revive her after tending to her mother's funeral, but Yoshie's spirit was put to rest by a ceremony that Takiko's friend Firuka performed that helps spirits pass on to the stars.
